Pixar Brings Robots to Life

October 15th, 2007 by Edward Dron

Crib robotThere’s no doubt that movie studios have seen the light when it comes to viral marketing. From The Dark Knight teasers to the Knocked Up microsite, studios are using the internet to build momentum and attract viewers.

To promote an upcoming film called Wall-E, Disney/Pixar has constructed an elaborate site called buynlarge.com. What I love about this site is how it integrates with the actual movie. The website helps to enrich my movie-viewing experience. It makes the plot more tangible.

With that said, I wonder if Pixar made the website too real. For a kid flick it feels extremely corporate. It’s slightly more exciting than IBM’s website. A little less content and a lot more animation would’ve made the site more engaging and viral.

I would have also loved to see a section where visitors could customize their own robot and send it to friends - similar to Dell’s website.
